The Long Island Elite Announces Benjamin Cooper as its 2021 Member of the Year
The Long Island Elite (LIE) is proud to recognize Benjamin Cooper of People’s United Bank as its 2021 Member of the Year. Cooper was awarded this honor for his contributions to the networking and philanthropy group during a year in which the COVID pandemic continued to change the face of business on Long Island. Despite this, Cooper, who holds a dual role as Vice President-elect and Chair of the LIE Membership Committee, was a leader in increasing and diversifying the organization’s membership. In addition, his efforts directly impacted the LIE’s fundraising, allowing the organization to present SIBS Place, its charity partner of the year, a record donation amount of $200,000.
Benjamin Cooper is a Vice President, Business Banking Relationship Manager & Commercial Lender for the bank providing financing & deposit services to businesses that generate between $5MM & $50MM in revenue and commercial real estate owners. Prior to People’s United, Ben was in a similar role at BankUnited and Santander Bank for 2, and over 5 years respectively, and has been in the Financial Services industry for more than 14 years. His professional career began as a stockbroker at Westrock Advisors in early 2007, a mid-sized retail brokerage firm where he obtained his Series 7 and 63.
In addition to his leadership in the banking industry, Cooper keeps himself very busy within various entrepreneurial projects including several apps/websites/products in multiple stages of development and funding as well as consulting PE/VC. Ben has a passion for collaboration and partnerships, bringing people from various parts of his networking and professional circles together, working on projects big and small, and fostering meaningful connections.
Benjamin Cooper chairs or sits on multiple non-profit and organization committees for fundraising and event planning, as well as advisory boards of several of his client’s businesses. He is also a proud Advisory Board Member of The Viscardi Center, a multi-programmed K through 12 school for severely disabled children and related services in Albertson, NY and chairs ACLD’s annual Poker for a Purpose event. Cooper was honored in February 2020 as a Long Island Business News’ 40 Under 40 winner.
Benjamin resides in Northport with his wife Georgiana and their three children.
